GAIN Capital, the StoneX subsidiary operating FOREX.com in the United States, accounted for most of the sector’s July increase in retail forex client balances, according to Finance Magnates’ 12 October analysis of CFTC filings. The figures describe July and August 2026, not October client inflows.
GAIN Capital’s balance increased by US$7.03 million, or 3.57%, in July to US$204.12 million. That was roughly three-quarters of the six dealers’ net July rise. Its August balance was nearly unchanged at US$204.16 million, representing 43.44% of the US retail forex total. Together with OANDA, it accounted for 71.40%.
Across the six registered dealers, the balance rose US$9.27 million, or 2.01%, in July to US$471.58 million, from US$462.31 million in June. August then fell US$1.61 million, or 0.34%, to US$469.96 million. The August total was 7.23% below the US$506.58 million recorded a year earlier.
These are month-end amounts owed by retail forex dealers to clients, adjusted for realised and unrealised trading profit and loss. A change can reflect trading outcomes as well as deposits and withdrawals. The number is neither trading turnover nor company revenue, and a rising balance alone does not measure new customer acquisition.
The same report lists US$2.85 million for Trading.com in August, down 0.74% monthly and up 11.53% annually. Trading.com is a separate group brand associated with XM, so those funds are not attributed to XM accounts. It also compares US$581.4 million of segregated futures client money at Coinbase- and Robinhood-owned firms, but that is a different client population and includes customers who do not trade crypto. The two totals are not a like-for-like crypto-versus-forex asset comparison.
